About the desk

Karen Serra, counsellor. The voice in Embertide is the same one you would hear in a Treelife session room.

This page is the deeper view — the credentials, the clinical training behind them, and the posture Embertide takes toward the midlife content market it sits inside.

Verified credentials

SAC Adv Dip MSFTR FACCPH — earned, not bought.

The four-line credential stack at the heart of this page is the same one Embertide’s editorial voice is built on. Each designation below is held by the founder, Karen Serra, and shapes every long-form letter, supplement pick and guide the brand publishes.

Registration bodies issue the designations; the Treelife caseload uses them. The distinction matters: a clinical credential does not authorise remote advice from a publisher — that is why Embertide stays deliberately publish-only, and points hormonal decisions back to your GP.

    Midlife specialism

Live midlife caseload is the editorial source material — Karen’s letters, supplements and guides all start there.

Existing midlife caseload feeds the Sunday cadence.

Editorial on Embertide is educational; it is not a substitute for individual clinical consultation. Hormonal decisions belong with your GP or endocrinologist — Karen’s clinical supervision is the standard every published recommendation has to clear, but it does not transfer clinical authority to a newsletter.

Clinical backstory

Trained in adult attachment work. Pivoted toward perimenopause when the rooms told her where the gap was.

Karen’s Advanced Diploma curriculum at SAC covers the adult, child and adolescents counselling stream — case formulation, supervision, ethics, and the long arc of therapeutic work. The designation is the entry point, not the destination; the work that earns the FACCPH fellowship sits on top of it.

MSFTR in turn registers the reflexology stream that informs part of the Treelife calming toolkit — a non-pharmacological handle Karen uses with midlife clients who sleep poorly and arrive wary of yet another prescription.

The pivot toward perimenopause happened the way clinical pivots usually happen: the same women kept arriving, in larger numbers, with the same stories stacked behind the same symptoms. Karen’s midlife caseload grew. The Sunday letter started as supervision-reflections on what that caseload was teaching. It became the brand.

“If I cannot defend a recommendation in supervision, it does not get a brand name attached to it.”
Karen Serra · Embertide editorial tenet

Practical implication: supplements get cut from the catalogue when the evidence does not hold up — even when the affiliate revenue is clean.

Practical implication: the AI stack respects the same ceiling — it drafts and republishes, it never publishes under Karen’s name without a human pass.

The specialism

Perimenopause counselling through an adult-attachment lens.

Karen works with perimenopausal clients inside the Treelife practice — adults navigating the identity shift that accompanies the hormonal one. Adult attachment work is the frame: how we reach for and withdraw from the people around us as our internal landscape re-routes under hormonal load.

That frame shapes Embertide’s editorial the way it shapes the rooms: not every symptom is a supplement problem, and not every supplement problem is hormonal when you set the attachment context first. The Sunday letter is where the pattern work reaches beyond the caseload.

“The hard part of menopause is not the hormones. It is that no one prepared you for the identity shift after.”

Karen Serra · Sunday letter #128

The writing brief at Embertide is simple: produce work that survives its own supervision. If a piece would not pass in a Treelife clinical review, it does not pass here either.

Why Embertide exists

A counselling desk, not a supplement brand.

The midlife market is loud: green-glass supplement bottles, hormone-tracking rings, creator-led stacks. Embertide is the narrower bet — a counsellor-led desk where the editorial calendar grows out of a live caseload, and the product line grows out of the editorial, never the other way around.

Four positions sit underneath that bet. They are not features. They are the non-negotiables the brand is built around.

  1. 01

    Counsellor-led, not creator-led.

Every recommendation survives clinical supervision. If Karen would not defend an affiliate pick, a formulation choice or a guide in a room with a supervisor, it does not ship under her name.

  2. 02

    Non-telehealth — by design.

Karen is not a remote-telehealth service. Embertide is a publishing brand and product label, not a clinical practice. The editorial on this site is educational; hormonal and therapeutic decisions stay with your GP or treating clinician.

  3. 03

    Writing first, products second.

Affiliate picks, POD drops and the 2026 capsule line only appear after the question is named in a published piece. Embertide is a writing brand that sells — never a selling brand that writes.

  4. 04

Same voice in session and on the page.

Anchoring trust in the clinician, not the funnel. If a Sunday letter sounds different from how Karen talks in a Treelife intake, the brand has drifted — and that drift gets caught in supervision before it ever reaches a subscriber.
